100 Years Ago May 2, 1908 Evesham United brought their long list of league fixtures to a close on Saturday when they entertained and defeated Bidford in a Bidford and District League encounter by six goals to nil. Bidford were delayed by the snow and in consequence the match did not start until 4pm. The united at once took up the attack and for the greater part of the game penned the visitors in their own half. However, Bidford packed their goal and the united succeeded in scoring only once in the first half, Knight doing the needful from a corner. In the second moiety the united continued to hold the upper hand and scored five more goals. Tallis had two, Ovard and W Malin one each and the other was rushed through from a scrimmage. Bidford played a very unsportsmanlike game and deliberately kicked the ball out of play without cause on many occasions.

75 Years Ago April 29, 1933 In conjunction with Sir Alan Cobham, the Journal has arranged that its readers shall have the opportunity of securing 20 free flights in one of the air liners taking part in his display at Greville Hall, Cheltenham Road, on Friday, May 5. On Saturday, April 29, between 5.30pm and 6pm, a high speed single-seat fighter of a type recently used by the crack fighting squadrons of the Royal Air Force will fly over the towns of Evesham and Pershore. The plane will be readily recognised by its brilliant yellow colouring and the roar of its 500hp Siddeley engine. The pilot will give a thrilling display of advanced aerobatics over each town, which will be a foretaste of the display itself. At the termination of each display the aeroplane will lay a trail of smoke.

30 Years Ago May 4, 1978 Evesham builders Wheeler and Mansell have withdrawn from their offer to sell 47 houses at Broadway to the Great London Council and have sold the land to another developer. Although the news has been greeted with enthusiasm in Broadway, the residents feel that it is too early to celebrate until they know the plans of the new owners. Mr W Bailey, clerk to the Broadway parish council, told the Journal: "The parish council welcomes the news that the offer has been withdrawn and it is now hoped that the new company will go in for private houses which can be purchased by anyone." In a letter to the GLC, Wheeler and Mansell say they are fed up with the long delays, wrangling and opposition to the scheme.
