GOOD shoot management supports a conservation agenda, according to Martin Howat, of Natural England.
He was addressing MPs at a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group at the House of Commons.
He told MPs that shooting delivered improved management of existing habitats and the creation of new habitats, such as small woods, as well as species conservation through, among other things, control of predators.
Mr Howat said there was a need to raise awareness of conservation, develop best practices and "ensure that Government and the wider public appreciate the principles that allow sustainable sporting shooting in this country and the role that the shooting community has in contributing to a healthy and diverse environment."
