A WORCESTER children's hospice could get a big boost when a renowned Welsh choir hit the right note in a powerful and passionate performance.

Tickets are still available for a gala performance of the Treorchy Male Choir at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday, October 11 at 7.30 pm.

Cash raised from the concert will help raise funds for Acorns Children's Hospice in Bath Road, Worcester, a registered charity offering a network of care for life limited and life threatened children and young people, and their families.

Mike Pezet, chairman of the Acorns Gloucestershire Support Group which raises funds for the Acorns in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire said: "Choirs have flourished in the Rhondda Valley for more than 150 years and nowhere better than in Treorchy. The first choir was formed in 1883. Sadly the choir was disbanded as a result of the Depression and two World Wars, but from the ashes rose a choir that would become a household name.

"The present Treorchy Choir reformed in 1946 and has developed into an international institution.

The Treorchy Sound has been heard world wide in radio broadcasts, television appearances, commercial recordings and two feature films.

The choir has shared the stage with some of the world's greatest entertainers. Television programmes with Sir Tom Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie Andrews, Sir Harry Secombe the list goes on to read like a Who's who of international stars.

"We are so fortunate to have the choir perform for the people of Worcestershire and hope that people will take the opportunity to come and hear this wonderful choir."

Tickets are available from the Worcesterlive Boxoffice at £25, £20 and £14. For more information call 01905 611427.
