HUNDREDS of crates of music, forming the Worcestershire Music Library have been moved to a new home in Glebe Close, St John's, Worcester.

More than 400 crates of music, which were originally housed in the basement of Worcester Library in Foregate Street, have been transported to the new site.

The music library's large collection of vocal scores and orchestral sets has been built up by Worcestershire Libraries and Learning Service over a number of years, with music regularly being loaned to choirs and orchestras both locally and nationally.

In 2012, Worcestershire County Council joined forces with the Elgar School of Music and their team of dedicated volunteers and for the last two years the school has run and maintained the service with the council providing both technical and staff support.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, said: "Working in partnership with the Elgar School of Music has enabled us to continue to offer this service to the people of Worcestershire and beyond.

"Without this support and commitment the music library would not have been able to continue. The service and its customers has really benefited from the musical knowledge, experience of the dedicated volunteers involved."

Peter Sheeran, Elgar School of Music added: “The continued development of the music library is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations work together. And our move to new premises, whilst initially filling us with dismay, has proved to be great an opportunity.

"We have been made very welcome in the new premises and the move has forged a whole new level of team spirit among our volunteers."
