THE lifesaving tax disc idea thought up by a Malvern policeman has triggered a wave of interest across the country.

PC Dave Wise thought up the idea to use the now-obsolete tax disc envelope on every car's windscreen to hold emergency medical and contact information.

The story went viral on the websites of the Malvern Gazette and other Newsquest newspapers, and also on social media and has now been officially adopted by West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police.

PC Wise said: "There's certainly been a lot of interest. I've just had an inquiry from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, and there have been inquiries from local businesses interested in adopting the idea for their vehicle fleets.

"The information within the disc could be vital to save lives or quickly locate a casualty's next of kin, something that can be time consuming at the scene of a serious incident.

"We are working to have this recognised nationally by key emergency services and the Association of Chief Police Officers."

The latest version of the disc can be found at the @MalvernCops Twitter account, and next Friday, the Malvern Gazette hopes to print a paper version for those with no computer access.
