A GENERAL market in Worcester will be open three days a week from December with 'up-market' Sundays and 'antique' days starting in Easter.

LSD Promotions has been appointed to manage a wide range of markets in Worcester, including Angel Place, which is undergoing a major refurbishment.

Worcester City Council says the company has extensive experience in market management, and organises regular markets in Kidderminster, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Wolverhampton, Tamworth, Stourbridge and elsewhere.

The company is proposing to operate a general market in Angel Place from December 3 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

From Easter 2015, LSD Promotions will introduce antique days on Fridays, ‘Upmarket’ Sundays – offering specialist, high quality products – and themed markets such as farmers’ and French markets over Bank Holiday weekends. These will be held in a number of locations across the city, including the riverside and Worcester’s High Street.

LSD Promotions will also operate the Christmas Fayre from 2015 onwards.

The company will now make contact with previous Angel Place traders and will also be looking to attract new traders too. LSD Promotions has strong contacts with a number of coach operators, and will be approaching them once the events programme is fully established.

David Blake, economic development and planning policy service manager at Worcester City Council, said: “The company has a very strong track record for delivering high quality, well-attended markets in a number of towns and cities in the Midlands. We look forward to working with them to deliver an exciting and vibrant market offering for Worcester, helping to attract many more people to the city.”

Dermot McGillicuddy, Director at LSD Promotions, said: “LSD are very pleased to be working with Worcester City Council and we believe that the new markets programme gives us the opportunity to create something really special for the city.

“The new offer, with its unique branding, will put Worcester’s markets on the map and attract a new range of shoppers to the city centre”.

Shops located in Angel Place remain open for business while the market refurbishment is under way. The work will be completed in time for the launch of the new-look market on December 3.
