A TERMINALLY ill woman was one of those caught up in a traffic jam caused when buses could not get between rows of parked cars.

Kim Weston, who lives on Canterbury Road, Ronkswood, Worcester, took these photographs which show the gridlock at around 3pm yesterday (Wednesday).

She said: "Today was another example of inconsiderate double parking outside my house.

"The bus couldn't get through and so all the passengers had to disembark and switch to another bus. The driver had to radio HQ to dispatch another bus he also called the police.

"A PCSO attended called Sarah but said she couldn't do anything but put polite notices on each vehicle. The whole episode took over an hour, one particular passenger was very upset because he was accompanying his terminally ill wife.

The PCSO's advice was to keep campaigning to get parking restrictions in place."

A spokesman for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust stressed that cars parked in Canterbury Road in Ronkswood may not belong to hospital staff and that workers from Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust also used the premises.

She said: "We continue to remind our staff of their duty to park responsibly. We do provide a free park and ride service for staff who are unable to park on site and we are in discussions with Worcester City Council planning department about more spaces on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site."

West Mercia Police and First Group which runs the bus service were contacted this morning but have yet to respond.
