INQUIRIES are ongoing after a 20-year-old Ross-on-Wye man died at the Celtic Manor Resort golf course near Newport yesterday.
The man, named locally as contractor Ollie Floyd, died after the agricultural sprayer he was in rolled into a lake at the exclusive resort yesterday morning.
Both Gwent Police and Newport City Council’s health and safety team are carrying out inquiries.
In a statement, the resort said: “The Celtic Manor Resort is deeply saddened to confirm that a fatal accident took place on its Twenty Ten Course at around 7.50am on Tuesday.
“The incident is subject to an ongoing investigation which the Celtic Manor Resort is co-operating with fully.
“The resort is unable to comment further at this stage. Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time.”
Mr Floyd was a player with Ross on Wye rugby club.
A statement on the club's Facebook page read: “It's with great sadness that I have to inform you that Ollie Floyd was killed in a tragic accident this morning.
"On your behalf I would like to offer our condolences to Haley, Nick, Tom and all members of the family.
"A great friend and clubman to us all. RIP my friend. Always a legend never will be forgotten."
