The 26-year-old was walking along the canal towpath, in Westbury Street, off Rainbow Hill, when he was approached by two men and two women.

As he walked past them, one of the men grabbed the victim by his shoulder and forced him to the ground.

The incident is one in a number of attacks in the past few years in the area.

Last June a man was left scarred for life after an attack in Lansdowne Park, and in May of the same year, a woman was sexually assaulted while walking along the canal.

Another woman was robbed by the canal, in Lansdowne Road, in September of last year.

He was just jailed for seven years for the attacks.

Police are not linking this most recent robbery with any previous incident.
