WHEN Mickleton resident, Nora Hardiman was born, the Titanic was yet to sail and no-one suspected that the First World War was looming on the horizon.

Edward VII had only recently died, George V was new to the throne; televisions had not been invented; cars were a rarity and powered flight had only recently been achieved.

Mrs Hardiman, who has memories from two very different centuries, celebrated her 104th birthday with a lunch at the Three Ways Hotel, Mickleton, which was attended by 22 friends and relations, including seven of her ten great grandchildren .

The hotel is next door to her home, the Four Seasons care home.

Mrs Hardiman has lived in Mickleton since 1982 and lived on her own in Meon Road until three years ago, when she suffered a few falls and moved into Four Seasons.

Nora Hardiman, who was born in Birmingham, was married in 1938 but lost her husband of 65 years, Joe, in 2003.

Her son Roger and daughter Vivienne, and several cousins, were able to attend the big celebration.
