ENGLAND cricketing legend Ashley Giles visited a Droitwich hospital to unveil two new state-of-the art scanners.

Mr Giles, who was part of England’s Ashes-winning team in 2005 and won a plethora of honours during his 14-year career, visited BMI Droitwich Spa Hospital on Thursday, May 21 to officially open the GE 450W wide-bore MRI scanner and the Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT scanner.

The 42-year-old, who lives in Droitwich and is now cricket director and head coach at Lancashire Cricket Club, said he was delighted to unveil the machines.

“BMI Droitwich Spa has a special relationship with people in the town and surrounding area and it is great to see it investing in such top quality equipment,” he said.

“I think it represents a major boost for healthcare services in the entire region.”

The hospital’s executive director Jenny Liggitt said she was “delighted” the new scanners were up and running.

“This is a massive boost for the hospital and its patients, putting the hospital at the cutting edge of imaging technology,” she said.

The new scanners are part of a £2 million partnership project between BMI Healthcare and Alliance Medical Ltd.
