PART of the A4440 on the eastern edge of Worcester was closed on Monday evening while a fire in undergrowth was dealt with.

The fire was spotted at about 9.40pm in a field off the road, not far from the hospital junction, and a crew from Worcester fire station was sent out.

On arriving at the scene, they found about 20 square metres of undergrowth was alight, and because the site of the fire was not easy to reach, an off-road vehicle based at Malvern fire station was sent for. A water carrier from Evesham was also summoned.

The road between the hospital junction and the Crowle island was closed by police while the fire crews did their work.

The fire was extinguished using a water jet, and the incident was over by 11.40pm. No cause for the fire has been disclosed.
