CHILDREN should make the most of the outdoors during the first part of half term with the weather set to take a turn for the worse later this week.

It has been a bright start to the school break for children but parents will be reaching for their umbrellas by the end of the week with rain showers and colder temperatures expected.

Ian Michaelwaite, from Pershore-based neatweather.tv, told youngsters to make the most of today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) because the weather will be taking a turn for the worse.

"If you are a child on half term at the moment I would get outside as much as I could today and tomorrow because the temperatures look like they are going down from midweek onwards.

"It might be that there is some rural grass frost tomorrow morning (Wednesday) but the upshot of that could mean it is a sunny day with weather in the teens about 16C/17C.

"There's cold temperatures arriving throughout the day and the afternoon will be much colder than the morning."

Mr Michaelwaite said Thursday would be sunny but a little bit cooler with a westerly breeze with temperatures about 13C/14C.

"There will be plenty of bright spells to enjoy and it could be worse and unfortunately on Friday it does get worse with plenty of showers around.

"Unfortunately we will be back to the April showers we have seen a lot of throughout May.

"The thing people will really notice is the temperature drop as it struggles to get into the teens at around 10C to 12C.

"Somewhere might be lucky to get 13C but with the showers it is going to feel colder and not a great end to the half term."

Fortunately, he said the weekend's weather would not be "too bad" with a few showers around on Saturday but nothing out of the ordinary.

"People should be able to dodge them if they keep an eye out but they could be heavy so if they get caught out they could get soaked.

"Sunday is not too bad but rain will be moving into Worcester later on in the day as well as a fresh southerly breeze."
