THE recent concert by the Big Chris Barber Band at the Forum in Malvern helped raise £5,500 for the Worcester branch of Parkinson’s UK.

The concert was put on by the Rotary Club of Bredon Hill working with Parkinson's UK Worcester and District Branch and was an immense success, say organisers.

During the concert, Chris Barber, who recently celebrated his 85th birthday, went through the whole range of music from his long career, including early New Orleans sounds to blues and gospel and the 20s and 30s styles of Chicago and New York.

John Hill of Rotary said: "It was a fantastically enjoyable evening and this was certainly reflected in the standing ovation from the audience at the end. Barber clearly demonstrated what an iconic living legend he has now become."
