THE mum of an inspirational fundraiser was the guest of honour at a school's presentation evening.

Stephen Sutton's mother Jane gave a stirring speech about her son's phenomenal legacy at the celebratory event at Pershore High School.

Students were presented with prizes for their performances in school, and were wowed by Mrs Sutton's words.

After finding out in January 2013 his cancer was incurable Stephen created his famous bucket list of activities he wanted to complete before he died.

He set up his Facebook blog, Stephen's Story, and set about fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Stephen smashed his original target of £10,000 within three weeks and currently the total raised stands in excess of £5.1 million.

At the presentation night, Mrs Sutton encouraged the students to follow her son's lead and make the most of their time on this planet.

She said: "Stephen’s legacy is not just about the fundraising.

"He made us appreciate what we’ve got.

"His positivity was inspirational and he lived his life with no regrets.

"His love of life was amazing.

"Life is for living – don’t be afraid to try out new experiences and continually push your boundaries.

"Live life to the full and make the most of every minute.

"After all no one knows what life has in store for them.

"It took incurable cancer to make him realise he could make a difference in this world.

"Stephen has given us all a second chance at being better people and we should take it."

The school's headteacher Clive Corbett presented Mrs Sutton with a donation of £1,000 to the TCT.

He said her appearance had been "wonderful" for all present.

Mr Corbett said: "She said to me that she hadn't done many speeches before, but it was incredible.

"The response she got, and the quality of her words, was amazing.

"It was a fantastic evening and having Jane there was a wonderful inspiration for all of the children."
