A Worcester doorman has spoken out against a group of men who she says "intimidated" and "insulted" her.

Rebecca Evans says the group, who she believes were local rugby players, bullied her.

The men have now been banned from the Cardinal's Hat in Friar Street after they reportedly surrounded and threatened her on Saturday night.

The incident began when Miss Evans told the group that they could not enter the pub with take-away food.

Four of the men pushed past her while two others went and bought food from a nearby Chinese restaurant.

When the two returned and weren't allowed in with their food, the intimidation started.

She said all six began to make insulting remarks about her weight and appearance, and some were shouting in her face.

One of the men pushed her in the chest several times with a chopstick, and said she was "lucky" that she was a woman. She says she was also sworn at a number of times.

The intimidation continued for around two hours, and didn't stop even when other customers confronted the men.

Miss Evans, who has worked as a door supervisor for many years including at other city nightspots such as Courtyard and Tramps, later said on Facebook: "I don't appreciate being surrounded and intimidated at my place of work by a gang of very large, heavily intoxicated guys two weeks in a row.

"I had to threaten to call the police if they didn't leave. I'm so sick of being touched, insulted and intimidated by men who think they are clearly above everyone else because they have a bright sporting career ahead of them.

"I can tolerate the abuse but never being touched like he did, it was vile. It made my skin crawl.

"Door staff are not employed to spoil people's fun and I certainly do not abuse my position as a door supervisor.

“I was just trying to keep the staff, venue and customers safe and happy in my small pub - some of which can be quite elderly"

A spokesman for the pub said the same group had been in the pub the week before, and had caused trouble then too.

Owner of the pub, Nigel Smith, said: "I am concerned mostly with supporting those who act on my behalf, for this pub.

"This is an isolated incident, and the pub is a friendly place, so we are extremely disappointed to hear of these events.

“The door lady has full right to refuse entry to people she feels shouldn't be allowed in, and that's what she’s hired to do."

The ban applies to Friday and Saturday nights.
