A LOCAL writer has presented the Royal British Legion with a cheque for £2715, from the sale of a very special book.

The money was handed over on Tuesday, August 25, by

Debbie Williamson, author of ‘Broadway Remembers’, to Nick Martin, Worcestershire Community Fundraiser for The Royal British Legion.

Broadway Remembers a history of the Broadway War Memorial and the 48 men commemorated on the memorial who lost their lives in the First World War. The presentation of the cheque took place at the foot of the War Memorial in Broadway which was built in 1920 by public subscription and is inscribed with the names of the men of Broadway who died in both the First and Second World Wars.

A not-for-profit publication, ‘Broadway Remembers’ was launched in August 2014 to commemorate the Centenary of the First World War. The book was supported by the Imperial War Museum Centenary Projects Programme, and grants from Wychavon District Council and Broadway Parish Council helped fund initial printing costs.

Copies of the book are still available and can be purchased from Blandford Books or Mary Maggs in the High Street, Broadway, or by emailing Debbie Williamson on warmem@broadwaymanor.co.uk

All proceeds from the book go to the Poppy Appeal.
