THE fun of Worcester's Victorian Christmas Fayre had a serious side as a platform for police to deliver a hard hitting message about the perils of drink or drug driving.

Officers from West Mercia Police encouraged the public to sign a pledge not to drink and drive as they manned their stall by the Guildhall in the High Street.

Judging by this photograph quite a few have already signed up.

Officers took to Twitter to deliver their firm festive warning.

A spokesperson for the South Worcestershire Local Policing Area said: "We'll catch you this Christmas if you're drink and/or drug driving."

South Worcestershire policing commander Kevin Purcell wrote on Twitter: "Say no to drink driving @SWorcsCops @OPUWorcs biggest campaign ever this December.

"Great to see members of community signing @WorcesterCops pledge never to drink and drive. #NotAcceptable."

Visitors had the chance to dress up as police officers as officers delivered their message face-to-face and via social media #DrinkDriversHaveNoRespect

At least one driver ignored the festive message when they drove through the fence at Worcester Racecourse in the early hours of this morning.

As reported elsewhere the driver, now in custody, was close to three times the legal drink drive limit.
