4.27PM UPDATE: The M5 is now open
THE M5 is re-opening at 4.30pm today - but drivers are being warned to avoid the route if they possibly can following today's chaos.
Highways England are currently out sweeping the carriageway to clear any debris and say it is set to be fully open.
The closure which affected the M5 northbound between junctions 5 (Droitwich) and 4A (M42) has resulted in long delays across all the routes surrounding it, with commuters advised to avoid it if they can.
Traffic in Claines around Claines roundabout is still backed up in all directions, with particularly heavy congestion.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We are working closely with Highways England to help reduce the effects of today's motorway closure."
