A YOUNG apprentice from Worcestershire has received national recognition for her work at an NHS trust.

Christina Trouton, a business administration apprentice with Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, received the personal development accolade at the Health Estates and Facilities Management Awards.

Christina works with the estates and facilities team and was nominated for the award by her colleagues.

Since starting her apprenticeship she is near completion of her level 2 qualification and works across two trust sites in her administration apprentice role.

Around 200 guests and nominees attended the ceremony which was held at Telford International Centre with Christina being the youngest of all.

Alison McKinley, facilities support manager, said “We are very happy for Christina.

"She was nominated for her quiet professionalism, hard work, IT skills and attention to detail but very much because she is keen to progress her personal development within a dual role which involves different disciplines. Chris really deserves this award.”

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust’s apprenticeship scheme has been running for since 2009 and has seen many young people benefit from placements in a range of roles including business administration and health and social care with staff having the opportunity to gain a qualification whilst earning a wage.

Throughout the apprenticeship scheme participants are supported to guide them through gaining their qualification, developing skills, gaining valuable experience and preparing them for future roles on completion of the programme.

The scheme has had some 'excellent results' says the trust and since it has been running 65 per cent of apprentices have gone on to either work within the Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, another NHS trust, or have gone on to further education.
