A 61-year-old prisoner charged with murdering a fellow inmate at a high-security jail in Worcestershire has appeared via video link before a crown court judge.
Victor Castigador is alleged to have killed Sidonio Teixeira on Monday, June 20 at HMP Long Lartin, near Evesham.
As he was introduced to Judge Robert Juckes at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, Castigador was seen on the video screen to raise his hand and say "hello, sir".
The charge was not put to him during the brief hearing, during which a timescale was agreed for the prosecution and defence to lodge papers about their case in preparation for his next appearance on September 5.
Judge Juckes said the case may eventually go before a High Court judge.
Teixeira, who was serving a life sentence at the Category A prison after admitting in 2007 murdering his three-year-old daughter.
He suffered severe head injuries in an incident at the prison and was pronounced dead at the scene.
