THE Fox Inn on Bransford Court Lane in Bransford is aiming to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support with a book swap event to be launched over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

It wants to encourage members of the public to bring along their old books and swap them for a new read.

The Chef & Brewer pub is looking to Worcester residents to donate old books that have been gathering dust on the shelf for years and, for every book donated, another can be taken home for a suggested donation of £1. Cake and refreshments will also be available to those donating books over the weekend.

Adam Hawker, general manager at the Fox Inn, said: “We know our guests love a good book, but we wondered how often our guests read it a second time. We thought if we could encourage Worcester residents to swap their well-read novels for something new, and raise money for Macmillan in the process, it would be a brilliant event.”

“We will also be taking part in the traditional Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser in September, but we are calling on the public to join Chef & Brewer over the bank holiday weekend to raise as much money as we can for Macmillan Cancer Support.”

The book swap is part of a three year campaign by Chef & Brewer pubs to raise money for Macmillan. It will continue to run after the August Bank Holiday weekend and is one of many activities lined up across the country in the lead up to Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which will take place in September.

In March 2016, Greene King, which owns Chef & Brewer, announced that its team members and guests had raised £2 million for Macmillan - doubling its initial target set in 2012 of £1 million. To mark the milestone, it renewed its partnership with the cancer charity for a further three years.
