AN 'obsessed' man who was out all night on a drink and drugs binge confronted his ex at the pub where she worked before threatening to drag her out by her hair.

Arron Mornington, aged 23, of Essex Close, Dines Green, confronted the woman, who he claimed was his former partner, at the Old Greyhound pub in New Street, in Worcester city centre on July 23.

Kamar Uddin, prosecuting, said: "[The victim] was concerned the defendant had become obsessed with her and started following her to her place of work and home address.

"At 10.30am on the day in question she received a text message from the defendant saying he had been out all night drinking and taking drugs and she had ruined his life.

"Around 2pm the same day he attended her place of work, the Old Greyhound in Worcester, where she is a chef.

"She was stood by the bar when the defendant entered. She believe he was under the influence of some sort of substance."

The conversation began calmly before Mornington began 'shouting and swearing' at [the victim], making her feel 'distressed and alarmed'.

He was asked by a manager to leave as she hid from him.

Mr Uddin said: "He said 'I will come behind the bar and I will drag you out by the hair if I have to'."

Mornington went behind the bar and entered the staff area and staff 'became frightened by the defendant's actions' Mr Uddin told Worcester magistrates.

Business owner Donna Bird put up her hands to try and stop Mornington getting past and he said: "if you do not let go I will lay you out".

"In fear of her life she [the victim] ran upstairs" said Mr Uddin.

Police received two phone calls, one from pub staff and the other from Mornington.

Nick Roberts, defending, said Mornington had accepted it was 'inevitable' he would go to prison as he was subject to a suspended sentence imposed by the crown court last November for affray.

Mr Roberts said: "He had been in a relationship with this lady and this got out of hand. This was a unique incident in relation to that lady only."

Mornington admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour which would lead others to believe immediate unlawful violence would be used against them when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester on Thursday.

His bail conditions are to have no contact, directly or indirectly, with the victim, Donna Bird or Sophie Degaris, not to enter Reindeer Court or New Street.

He is set to be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, September 16.
