A CHARITY run has helped fundraisers hit their stride, bringing in £2,500 for Worcester's breast care charity.

The total is now in for the 2016 Broadway Tower Charity Run which raised vital funds for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

The cheque for £2,500 was presented to Steven Thrush (trustee and consultant breast surgeon) of the charity on Monday, September 12.

The run, which continues to grow in popularity, took place on Wednesday, May 25, the third time the annual event has taken place.

It initially started as a small run which was held from Liz and Roger Day’s bungalow in Broadway where they invited friends and family for a mid-week run to Broadway Tower and back.

Last year to their amazement it attracted 100 runners and the decision was made that the run had outgrown their home.

As a result they would need to ask the farmer if they could hold it in his field opposite.

This year there was more expense than on previous occasions with the hire of toilets.

Medals were given to all runners and trophies to the winners. Runners could also enter online.

The run attracted just over 200 entries.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "The weather was dry and a little cold for the spectators and organisers but ideal for the runners."

The five mile hill climb was completed in a record time of 30 minutes 38 seconds by Adam Jackson from Worcester's Black Pear Joggers.

The first woman was Lucy Cambridge in 36 minutes, 30 seconds.

A spokesman said: "Other runners were thrilled to have improved on their time from the previous year. It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all.

"With the kind help of some local sponsors and generous donations, £2,500 has been raised for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven."
