A CAR parked on double yellow lines caused gridlock outside Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

There were a raft of complaints yesterday about the Volkswagen car which was reportedly dumped at the site and infringed on the road.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: “As soon as our security team was alerted to the issue, they manually lifted the vehicle out of the way to allow traffic to move and waited with it until the owner returned.

“We are hoping to increase the number of car parking places available at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in the near future.”

Justin Humphryes was one of those caught in the tailback.

He said: "The car that was parked had a disabled permit, so I believe that legally they can park there as long as they're not causing an obstruction.

"They were however causing quite an obstruction.

"We were there for 45 minutes when we were told we may have to wait another hour for a tow truck.

"At which point some fed up people just put their backs into it and pushed it out of the way."

Robyn-Adele Harris wrote on Facebook: "The circumstances for needing to attend [hospital] are often frightening and stressful enough without the lack of parking.

"A multi-storey is well overdue. As more services are transferred to Worcester from outlying hospitals the situation will only get worse."

Steve Brant wrote on Facebook: "We were stuck in this, very poorly designed and good job an ambulance didn't need to get through."

Claire Louise Monks recalled a similar incident happening last week.

“A [car] was parked on the yellow boxed junction because it’s the way out of the car park,” she said.

“Anyway every car had to turn around to go the complete opposite way out of the car park. It was a joke.”

But some readers defended the hospital and said it was more important to spend money on healthcare than parking.

Worcester News readers sent in pictures of long traffic queues caused by the parked car.
