COMMUTERS are concerned about water gushing downhill from a burst pipe and forming a pool at the roundabout below.

Safety concerns have been raised about the water flowing down Madresfield Road, Malvern, and collecting at Pickersleigh Road roundabout.

Severn Trent Water say they are going to set up a two-way traffic lights to enable repair work.

Lynette Hammond, from Malvern Wells, said: "The pavement by the alleyway is bubbling. I just drove past it in a taxi at about 12.45pm.

"Its like a little stream running down the road really. A huge waste of water.

"The pavement where it was going out of was the most dramatic bit."

Another commuter said: "The water was gushing out from the pavement at 9.30am, when I was driving to work in Worcester.

"It was gushing down the road and collected at the roundabout by the doctors surgery.

"The water was running all the way down Madresfield Road. At that stage no one was there looking to stop the leak.

"Because of the nature of the road it's quite hilly. It was making it a little bit hairy on the roundabout."

A Severn Trent Water spokesman said: “We discovered a burst water pipe on Madresfield Rd, Malvern this morning.

"We’re happy to say that it’s not causing any supply issues for our customers and everyone has water.

“Our team is heading to the site now and will work around the clock until the pipe is fixed and everything is back to normal.

"Unfortunately, to do the job safely, we will need to install two-way traffic lights, however this is a pretty standard job for us and our teams are experts in fixing pipes like this, so it shouldn’t take too long."

The spokesman said the leak is unrelated to the pipe replacement work in Albert Rd.
