ANIMAL lovers have the chance to look around Worcester's rescue and rehoming centre and even give a cat who has lost his tail a loving home.

The open day will take place at the Holdings, Holdings Lane, Broomhall, near Worcester (WR5 3FP) on Saturday, May 27 from 11am to 4pm.

The open day is a celebration of the centre's first half year after it opened its doors seven months ago.

The day will provide an opportunity for people to see the new cattery and its cats and meet the staff and volunteers.

Since opening last October, 145 cats in need have been taken into care and 125 have gone to permanent loving homes thanks to the ongoing work of the RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire Branch

Branch trustee Geraldine Haynes said: "We receive many photos of cats happily settling into their new homes and that makes all our work so worthwhile, especially when you know how many of these cats have had a bad start in life, having been abused, neglected, abandoned or just unwanted.

"There are, of course, cats who come into our care, who have been loved and well cared for, but changes in owners' circumstances make it impossible to keep their beloved pets."

Pictured here is Bagherra who got trapped in a door when he was young, which lead to him having to have his tail amputated. He is described as 'quite a worried boy' but Mrs Haynes feel he will blossom in the right home.

He has severe allergies, which can make him feel unwell and so have an impact on his behaviour - these allergies mean he cannot go outside.

Also pictured is one of the cats who has gone to a loving home recently.

Totoro, an older Siamese, came to the centre after being attacked by a dog.

He also had high blood pressure and kidney failure which due to being left untreated had caused bi-lateral blindness.

Mrs Haynes said: "We weren't sure if he would make it, but he did and soon became a firm favourite at the centre due to his sweet nature."

Totoro is now settled with his permanent foster dad. The branch will continue to cover his ongoing veterinary costs.

Mrs Haynes said: "Our rescued cats receive all the veterinary treatment they need, are all spayed or neutered, vaccinated, chipped and are rehomed with six weeks free pet insurance.

"The branch policy is to rehome, not destroy, all the animals in our care, however long that may take. We believe there is the right home out there for every animal in our care and sometimes it takes time to find the "perfect match"."

At the open day, there will be a vegan barbecue, stalls, games, tombola and teddy bear trail.

Winners of the pet photo competition, which has been running from the centre's Facebook page, will be announced as they raise funds to build dog kennels.
