A BIDFORD watering-hole of more than two hundred years has re-opened to drinkers following an extensive refurbishment.

The Bulls Head Inn, Bidford on Avon, near Evesham, which used to function as the village’s slaughterhouse, has undergone a £123,000 renovation.

The popular village pub is aiming to broaden its appeal with improved facilities, including full redecoration both inside and out, an altered layout to create more intimate areas, and new furniture, fixtures and fittings.

The enclosed beer garden has also been transformed with an extended patio area, new lighting, fixed seating, attractive planters and a climbing frame for youngsters.

Changes have been made to the toilets and the kitchen area, and the pub will now be broadcasting Sky and BT sports channels.

Publican Christie Cartwright is overseeing the running of the Bulls Head Inn but the day-to-day business will be operated by new manager Martin Lamont.

"This little pub has something from everyone," Mr Lamont said.

"We hope that the changes will attract more ladies and wine lovers looking for a place where they can feel comfortable visiting on their own or with colleagues, friends or family.

"The Bulls Head Inn has always been a traditional local and we are keen to maintain that by continuing to serve a great range of casks ales in a warm, welcoming setting.

"In addition, we have introduced a quality selection of wines and coffees and added a selection of nibbles to the traditional pub menu."

The work has been completed by national pub operator Punch.

Punch publican development and training manager Chris Payne said: "The Bulls Head Inn is a small pub with a big heart. Our investment has made the best use of the space turning it into a more attractive venue with separate areas for those looking for sports entertainment, a quiet drink, a meal with family and friends or simply a quick coffee break. Christie and Martin make a great team and I’m confident that they will continue to grab The Bull by the horns and make it a great success."
