A TEENAGER has been arrested after a threatening email was sent to schools in Worcestershire - and others nationwide.

The National Crime Agency said an 18-year-old man had been arrested in the Abbots Langley area of Hertfordshire in connection to the emails, which were sent to schools yesterday.

We reported how Red Hill Primary School, in Worcester, sent children home early after receiving the email in which threats were made suggesting pupils would be harmed when they left school.

West Mercia Police said they had received a number of reports of malicious hoax communications made to educational establishments and schools in the West Mercia policing area.

St Richard's CE First School and Blackminster Middle School, in Evesham, also received the email along with Pebworth Primary School, near Evesham.

Hertfordshire Police said: "On the evening of Wednesday, March 28, the National Crime Agency and Hertfordshire Police officers arrested an 18-year-old man in the Abbots Langley area on suspicion of making malicious communications relating to the threatening emails received earlier on March 27 by a large number of schools and colleges throughout the UK.

"We understand these threats have caused considerable concern but we do not assess there to be an increased risk to the public.

"We believe this incident is linked to the hoax bomb threat that closed hundreds of schools last week.

"As this is a live investigation we are unable to comment further."
