THE county cricket ground is under more than a foot of water, just days before the season is due to kick off.
Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s Blackfinch New Road ground, in Worcester, was yesterday left resembling the River Severn after heavy rain.
Nearby Hylton Road will be closed from 9.30pm-11pm tonight for Severn Trent Water to pump out the flood water at the cricket ground.
Flood water has risen up to seat level in the stands of the 5,500-seater ground.
The Pears’ 2018 season begins next Friday (April 13) away at Hampshire.
However, Blackfinch New Road is not due to host its first match until April 27, against Nottinghamshire.
Last month, there was a mini-flood and head groundsman Tim Packwood said preparations for the new season had not been impacted.
Work on a £1.2million scheme to prevent flooding on New Road began in January and is expected to last 12 weeks.
The major city road is being raised by 15 inches for nearly 200 metres to prevent flooding.
