THE owners of a Worcestershire garden, who had to cancel a charity event last weekend due to the soggy spring weather, are hosting a pop-up garden opening on Saturday (April 14) so people can see some of their blooms.

White Cottage, at Stock Green, near Inkberrow, was due to open for the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) last Sunday (April 8) but the grounds were so saturated that Jan and Mel Bates, who own the property, felt it was not safe for visitors to walk around.

The couple have been opening in aid of the NGS and raising funds for its charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Carers Trust, MS Society and Parkinsons UK, for 30 years.

However, because their snake’s-head fritillaries are at their stunning best they have decided to open between 11am and 4.30pm on Saturday.

Pam Thompson publicity officer the NGS in Worcestershire said: “Jan has bravely decided to do a pop-up event on Saturday. It is a really great opportunity for garden visitors to feast their eyes on a sea of horticultural reptiles."

The garden will also open on Sunday May 6, Sunday May 27 and Monday May 28 as scheduled. Visits can also be made by arrangement from April through to September.
