VOLUNTEERS are needed to support people affected by crime in Worcestershire.
Victim Support is the independent charity for people affected by crime and traumatic events in England and Wales. Their local team are looking for more volunteers who are empathetic, non-judgemental and want to make a difference to the community.
Amanda Rose, currently volunteers in the Worcestershire and Herefordshire area. She said: “Volunteering for Victim Support is a unique experience and every day is different. Being able to help people when they are at their most vulnerable and seeing the positive changes in them throughout support, is a very rewarding opportunity.”
Diane Doust, local Co-Ordinator for Victim Support Volunteers in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, said: “Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do to help reduce the harm that crime causes to our community. Crime can have a significant impact on a person’s mental and physical health and the support our staff and volunteers offer can provide a lifeline.”
Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training and ongoing guidance. When fully trained, volunteers will then begin to directly support people affected by crime. Much of the support offered is initially given by telephone, volunteers are provided with mobile phones and essential expenses are reimbursed.
