STAFFIES are wonderful - that's the message from a Worcestershire animal rescue shelter looking for loving homes for the dogs.

RSPCA Worcester & Mid-Worcestershire Branch has several Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terrier-crosses in need of forever homes.

The branch says it is often the case that some animal charities accept mainly the most popular breeds of dogs for rehoming, but only take in a small number of Staffies or other bull breeds.

Geraldine Haynes, branch trustee, said: "At the RSPCA we try to give every animal a chance and take on those most in need - often battered, bruised and abused dogs who really deserve another chance in life.

"Many Staffies are beautiful dogs that often get an unjustified bad reputation. We are continually trying to change that and show everyone just how wonderful they can be.

"Many make fantastic pets because, with the right care, they are adaptable and fit into almost every environment.

"We rehome Staffies to adults, to families with children, to households who work part-time and to households where there is someone at home most of the time."

Mrs Haynes explained that the breed has an enormous sense of fun and many love being with people.

"They love to be involved and part of the family," she said. "Their mouths smile, their eyes twinkle and their hearts are full of love to give to their new owner.

"Interestingly, people who have owned a Staffie before, or those who know the breed, only ever have Staffies."

George and Alfie, pictured here, are just two dogs at the branch waiting for their forever homes.
