NUNNERY Wood Colts hosted their popular annual football tournament for the 14th time at the weekend.
A total of 110 sides – with some coming from as far as Essex – played in more than 400 matches in age groups from under sevens to under 14s.
Starting on Saturday and finishing on Sunday, about 2,000 people turned out each day as sides battled it out on the Battenhall pitches, with a total of 19 trophies up for grabs. The weather could not have been better for the spectators and everyone had a fantastic time despite a few teams not turning up on the day. The level of football played across all age groups was really high with many of the players destined for academies via the football league club scouts that attended.
The University of Worcester and Blessed Edward Oldcorne College helped to make the event possible.
Nunnery Chairman Darren Mace said: “What an amazing couple of days. We say it every year but this was our best ever tournament with all our teams performing well and masses of help from our players’ parents/carers giving up their time to help us deliver a great experience for all.
“None of this would have been possible without the co-operation of many organisations such as the University of Worcester for preparing and letting us use their pitches, Blessed Edwards for letting us park cars on their field, Midwest Landscaping for helping with the set-up and take down of all the goals and other equipment, and The Cabin for providing trophies and all our sponsors”.
