THE former chairman of the world-famous Kidderminster carpet firm Brintons has died.

Michael Brinton, who was also Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, died yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after a year-long battle with cancer.

Today, a Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael Brinton, Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire.

"Michael passed away peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. After bravely fighting cancer over the last year.

"A private family funeral will be followed by a memorial service in Worcester Cathedral in the Autumn."
