Flood alerts still in place as weekend events carry on

A FLOOD alert is still in place for the river Severn in Worcestershire after more rain fell over night.

Other alerts around the county include the river Avon between Salford Priors and Tewkesbury and rivers in mid Worcestershire including the Piddle and Bow Brooks near Pershore.

Another flood alert that had been in place for the lower river Teme was removed at 8.25pm this morning.

The persistent rain has caused a number of events to be cancelled including the yesterday’s river festival in Evesham and the Bromyard Gala.

But the miserable weather hasn’t stopped the Great British Summer event taking place at South Quay and the city centre.

The weekend event, hosted by Worcester BID, is continuing today and there are activities including a flea market at Angel Place and facepainting for the children by the riverside.

Also on today is the Norton Community Games. Starting at 10.30am this morning the event will have stalls, a variety of sporting events and will be showing the F1 British Grand Prix and Wimbledon men’s singles final.

The event is taking place at Worcester Cricket Club at the Norton Barracks.
