Motorway closed by four-vehicle crash

TRAFFIC using the M5 near Worcester was disrupted following a four-vehicle crash on the M5.

The crash, at 1.38pm, closed the northbound carriageway between junctions seven and six, leading to tailbacks of up to 13 miles. Three cars and a lorry were involved.

Fire engines were sent out from Worcester, Droitwich and Upton, and police, paramedics and the Highways Agency were also there.

Watch Commander Keith Peters said: “We arrived to find that there were casualties with possible neck and spinal injuries inside two of the cars involved in the collision and working alongside paramedics, we cut away sections of these vehicles to create the space needed to lift them out more easily.”

Once released, the two casualties were then taken by land ambulance to hospital.

All three lanes of the northbound carriageway were closed during the incident. By 2.45pm the carriageway was reopened and congestion was clearing.
