Bell tower ready for weekend

CHERRYPICKER: work on the Bell tower on Tuesday. CHERRYPICKER: work on the Bell tower on Tuesday.

THE bell tower is open to the public again from this weekend after work to make the building safe was completed.

The building has been closed to the public for several weeks for safety reasons after large pieces of masonry fell from the tower.

The work was overseen by building surveyor Peter Rhodes and a 110 foot tall cherrypicker was used to remove or refix loose stone, with wire netting used to secure large pieces.

A detailed review of the building will now take place to determine the cost of additional, long-term repairs before Evesham Parochial Church Council begins a public appeal for funds.
