Silver gilt for town’s colourful displays

EVESHAM has picked up a prestigious silver gilt award in the Heart of England in Bloom competition for the second successive year.

Mayor Robert Raphael, who attended a presentation ceremony in King’s Heath, Birmingham, said he was pleased that the town had managed to maintain its high standards.

However he added that everyone involved with In Bloom remained determined to achieve that “elusive” gold award.

Evesham was competing in the large town category, up against the likes of Malvern, Leamington Spa and category winner Biddulph, in Staffordshire.

There was also success for Tewkesbury, which won gold in the towns category and Pebworth, near Evesham, which received silver in the village section.

Heart of England in Bloom chairman Mike Garwood congratulated all entrants on their efforts.

“Everyone is proud to be involved with In Bloom, which is one of the largest horticultural campaigns in Europe, and even more so when they receive their prestigious awards,” he said.
