No lights switch-off

STREET lights in Pershore will not be switched off as part of a county trial.

Worcestershire County Council asked town and parish councils around the county if they wanted to take part in the energy-saving scheme, which aims to reduce the cost of street lighting.

Town councillor Chris Parsons said: “The people I have spoken to in my neighbourhood are dead against it. They have said they wouldn’t feel safe with the lights off.

“The feeling is it will encourage unwanted activity during those hours. I can understand the wish to save money but there are other ways to do it. They could replace the old street lights with LED lighting which would be a tremendous saver

Thats a real pity, i was looking forward to seeing more stars at night. There is far too much light pollution. I was not asked my thoughts on this, the only way i have been able to comment is via the journal's website. I bet the people that were asked hardly ever go out at night anyway!
