Joy for green-fingered pupils
3:00pm Sunday 14th October 2012 in Evesham
AWARD: Nicola Sinclair, aged nine, front, and, back from left, Nat Buttle, nine, Matthew Richards, eco co-ordinator, Amelia Browning, nine, headteacher Elizabeth Spencer and Hayden Salter, nine.
PUPILS at an Evesham primary school have come top of the class after winning two awards for their gardening efforts.
St Richard’s First School has been awarded gold in the Heart of England in Bloom awards and also in the Evesham First Schools competition, organised by the town council.
Judges were impressed with the “enthusiasm and knowledge” of the pupils who have been working closely with the members of the Blooming Lovelies, school governors and gardening club on the school grounds.
The school has also been awarded five green flags for their efforts and can now mentor other schools.
Headteacher Elizabeth Spencer said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and delighted. It really is a reflection of the children’s enthusiasm and knowledge.”
