THE inaugural meeting of the new social group The HummingBirds was held on the second Wednesday of March and proved to be a resounding success. Twenty two ladies assembled in Defford Village Hall for an evening of friendship and relaxation.

Foster mother Meg Farmer, from Worcester shared her experiences of Caring for 101 Children. Over a period of twenty years Meg, her husband and their three children welcomed foster children of all ages, from birth to teenagers to share their loving and caring home. Meg recalled many incidents which at times had been very challenging and sometimes heart-breaking not just for the foster children themselves, but also for Meg and her family. The talk was extremely interesting, and most enlightening.

After refreshments the future of ‘The HummingBirds’ group was discussed, and plans were made for future months. During this enjoyable social time, there was the opportunity to circulate and make new friends.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 7.30pm in Defford Village Hall when the theme will be Back to the 60’s. Whilst any lady wishing to attend wearing 60’s style clothes will be very welcome, this will not be a requirement for entry, but everyone will be encouraged to share their experiences of that era together with any of their memorabilia. Ladies with birthdays post 1969 will be able to enjoy being entertained by the memories of the more mature members. There will also be the opportunity to participate in a 60’s quiz.

Ladies in any area are very welcome to come and join this new social group. Teens to Twilight years – there is no age limit. Everyone is very friendly and you will be assured of a warm welcome. Further information can be obtained from Patty White on 01386 556390.
