THIS week I had the pleasure of going on patrol with the Evesham Street Pastors. I was unsure what to expect and what exactly it was they did when on patrol. I met the group at 9pm for a briefing before their shift began which goes through to 3am. At 10pm we went out and walked around all the night spots in the town. We met lots of people enjoying the nightlife and this is where the street pastors showed their worth. The warmth of the greetings they were getting, wherever they went, from the general public, the door staff and takeaway owners was testament to the impact and value they have added to Evesham’s night time economy. Considering the commitment they have made and the time they give up freely, they truly deserve the respect they have garnered and all our gratitude. I really think Evesham is a better place at night for everyone because of them.
