HARDY PLANT SOCIETY

Hardy Plant Society wins Gold at RHS Malvern Spring Festival

The display of hardy perennial planting for shade, created by the Worcestershire Group of the Hardy Plant Society was given a gold award by judges at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival last week.

The Hardy Plant Society is a specialist society, providing information to encourage gardeners to grow a wide range of these beautiful plants. There are 40 local groups around the UK and 8 special interest groups, the most recent being the Shade & Woodland Plants Group launched this year, to encourage using these situations that are often considered problem areas in the garden. The display attracted attention to foliage, where shape, colour and texture can be more important than flowers. And with ideas for plants to grow at the base of a shady wall as well as those tolerant of conditions under mature trees, there was plenty of inspiration.

The Show also marked the publication of the newly revised and updated booklet on Hardy Geraniums, a group of plants where many are tolerant of shady conditions. It is one of a range of publications available from the Hardy Plant Society.
