THE opening of the club was executed with the usual air of order by our President Brian Melville, who informed us that at the town council meeting he attended, John Doyle's wife Joyce was awarded a civic award

Our President then asked Pat Sparrow if he could recite a poem from the Evesham carnival dated 1957. It certainly made us realise how attitudes and perceptions have changed saying that it was very amusing and of real interest.

We also gave a warm welcome back to Stan Saunders as he has not been too well lately. We have also been informed that Cliff Blackborrow is on the mend and hopes to be back with us soon.

We all waited in great anticipation for our speaker Bob Young to deliver his talk on "tales of the unexpected". It was an interesting title with a Scottish twist to it. Bob told us about his life and progress in the machine and tool industry. Many companies were mentioned which Bob worked for or was associated with, including Churchhill machine tools, Secal, Ferranti, BLMC, Walter, Renolds chain etc. One of his many experiences was in Ireland when he came across road works right out in the wilds of the countryside. The guy directing the traffic had two small branches one with green leaves on for GO and one without for STOP. There was much amusement and comment from the members about that experience.

Well that’s all for this week; just to say that next week our speaker will be Malcolm Lewis telling us about signature tunes.
