AFTER the fourth attempt the hard working villagers of Pebworth have been awarded Gold at the recent RHS Britain in Bloom campaign awards ceremony in Rugby. The village hall was packed in July to hear the presentation to the judges and the whole village was described by one resident as “looking as if it’s been scrubbed from top to bottom”. The In Bloom committee was praised for organising so many events, making Pebworth a very active village and for the on-going work to improve the local environment. – its latest project is bulb planting to provide colour for all four seasons and the siting of a specially commissioned owl box in the churchyard. The gold award capped an exciting month with St Peters’ churchyard itself, where much of the In Bloom’s work this year has been focussed, reaching the finals of the Best Kept Worcs Churchyard competition – it was described as becoming “more impressive and delightful as one proceeds around it “. Three days after achieving gold the In Bloom committee organised and sponsored the hugely successful Produce Show at the recent Party in the Park where visitors were able to view the many entries , to view the children’s entries for the best anti-litter poster which will be reproduced and put up around the village and to admire the many outstanding photos, some of which will be included in our 2016 calendar “Pride of Pebworth”. Funds for on-going projects were raised with a plant “shop” filled with 100s of donated plant and plans are now being made for a children’s Pumpkin Party in time for Hallowe’en.
