SIMON White from Peter Beales Roses in Norfolk presented his ‘A-Z of Roses’ at the September meeting. For every letter of the alphabet Simon found a nugget of information: on different rose varieties and their growing preferences, pests and diseases, pruning and much more, ending with a question and answer session.

Member Becky Dale held a well attended coffee morning at her Worcester city centre garden. Annuals feature there amongst a framework of large mature shrubs and herbaceous perennials, with a striking Campsis (Trumpet vine) flourishing in a sheltered spot close to the house. The final visit of the year was to Morton Hall Gardens where a huge renovation programme has resulted in a beautiful garden.

We next meet on Saturday, 8 October at 2pm at Crowle Parish Hall when the topic will be another garden favourite - Clematis. Glenis Dyer is a former committee member of the British Clematis Society who has opened her garden for the NGS for thirty years, and she regards clematis as ‘The ultimate social climber’. Admission is free for members and £3 for visitors who are always welcome. For more information about the group visit www.worcs-hardy-plant.org.uk
