WHERE were you, and do you remember what you were doing when you heard about the death of President John F Kennedy? This was one of the memories Ray Sturdy talked about and illustrated during his talk at our meeting on Tuesday 4 October. I remember I was getting ready to go to Guides when I heard the report on television. Ray gave us a very interesting talk on the many things that happened during the Swinging Sixties. The first man in space, M1 motorway , high rise flats and offices brought murmurs of recognition and comments from the members. Then we had Rock n Roll with Elvis, the Twist and The Beatles which was greatly enjoyed by the younger generation with the records being played on a Dansette Record Player. For the drivers there was the E-Type Jaguar and the Mini. Parking meters and attendants appeared and in 1967 the Breathalyser was introduced. Ray covered many other Sixties “happenings” and certainly stirred our memories of that period.
Our next meeting will be held on November 1 at The Civic Centre at 2pm. and we will look forward to a Sugarcraft Demonstration by Debbie Bowyer. New members are welcome.
