ON March 28 we held our monthly meeting at the Town Hall.

Members were given a talk and slide show by Chris Roberts, one of our members who is a volunteer at Croome Court, assisted by a young man from the National Trust.

Croome Court was inherited by George William in 1751 when he became the 6th Earl of Coventry. He engaged Capability Brown to landscape the grounds and Robert Adam to design the interior.

Members saw pictures of the wonderful tapestry room and other elegant and colourful parts of Croome Court. Over the years since then it has had a chequered history, becoming at one stage a boys' school and later a property company wanted to develop it.

Fortunately, due to a lot of hard work by a large number of people Croome Court is undergoing a transformation and there is much for the visitor to see. There are the restored wartime buildings of RAF Defford, picturesque walks around the grounds and the chance of refreshments and a visit to the gift shop.

It was an interesting and entertaining afternoon which concluded with the usual raffle and refreshments. A huge thank you to our volunteers who make these afternoons possible.
