Blockley WI

THE last few weeks have been busy for the ladies of Blockley WI.

Following a most enjoyable coffee morning at the Cotswold Food Store in Longborough, we were privileged, at our June meeting, to hear a most amusing and, at times, poignant talk by Irene Tyak of the Yellow Hat Tribe.

Although Irene had always wanted to paint, it was not until her early 50s that she realised her talents. Her paintings are now in high demand.

At the end of May, the president attended the AGM of the National Federation at the Royal Albert Hall. The resolution adopted this year related to the need for the employment of more midwives and it was carried by 5,939 votes to 240!

To finish on a more local note: at the next meeting of Blockley WI – to be held in St George’s Hall next Thursday at 7.15 pm – our speaker will be one of our members, Chris Boddington, who will talk on her travels in Ethiopia. Visitors (£2) are welcome between 7.30pm and 7.45pm. Ethiopia is a fascinating country and we very much look forward to hearing about it.
